Stewards of the Mysteries of God

“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God” 1 Cor. 4:1.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon examine Paul’s counsel to the Corinthian Church about how they should be handling their relationship with God.

It’s important that we stop living in blindness to the mysteries of God and begin to understand them through our faithful devotion to the relationship with Him. Not in the deeds we do or the outward appearance of holiness, but in the innermost parts of our being.

It is time that the church wakes up because what we do today is going to count for all of eternity.

So join in the conversation as we discover what it means to be Stewards of the Mysteries of God.

The Courage to be Protestant

Today on The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green explores The Courage To Be Protestant by David Wells.

Whatever your choice, Courage to be Protestant will give you the facts and consequences in the world of cultural change.  Read and then decide which camp you belong to and why.  Great book for all believers from 18-80 years.

The evangelical world of today looks quite different from a few decades ago and appears to have divided into three rather distinct constituencies. These three groups are classic evangelicalism, marketers, and emergents. The last two groups are transitional and are stepping-stones toward a more liberalized Christianity. Over time, the capacity to think doctrinally has been lost as new leaders emerge and the older pastor-theologian model to newer entrepreneurial organization builders promotes a new method of ‘selling” the Gospel; attracting the people in need with a more comfortable appeal.

The Corinthians Character Qualities

Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you” 1 Cor. 3:16.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon continue their conversation in first Corinthians Chapter 3. Paul is instructing the church on the foundation of Jesus Christ. He is warning them to be careful about the materials they use to build upon the foundation. And he reminds them that they are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

We can learn much from these passages that Paul is sharing because they are still relevant to our lives today. Paul mentions wood, hay, and stubble; which burn easily. In opposition, he asks if we are building with gold, silver, and precious stones. In the fire, the metals become more pliable and pure. The stones are rare and valuable.

So join in the conversation as we discover how to build the temple of the Holy Spirit with the best materials as Paul instructs the Corinthians in Character Qualities.

Wounded by God’s People

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green examines Wounded by God’s People by Anne Graham Lotz.

“Almost everyone I know has been wounded to one degree or another. It doesn’t matter if a person is young or old, rich or poor, intelligent or ignorant, healthy or infirm, educated or illiterate. We’ve all experienced wounds.” Wounded people wound other people.  Whether the wounds are valid in wrongs done, the solution to keep from passing that pain on is the subject of this study.  Ann Graham Lotz is honest in her own struggles and reflects on how she learned to be the victor, not the victim of others.  Also, she gives us an in-depth look as to ways wounds can form and take over without us realizing.  But sometimes, the wounds are through thoughtless, careless, “being right” in my choices, and then we must learn how to make our wrongs right.  A book that requires more than one reading.

The Corinthians Character

“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 3:11.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins discuss 1 Corinthians Chapter Three. Paul is giving the church a warning about what they are building on the foundation of Christ Jesus.
The character of Christ-likeness is the goal for how we should be building, but many times we are walking out our Chrisitan life without a thought of how we are displaying Christ to others and also back to God Himself.
So join in the conversation as we learn from Paul’s counsel about the Corinthians Character.

If You Will Ask

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green takes a look at If You Will Ask Oswald Chambers

One of our main problems is that we focus our prayers on ourselves instead of on God. The purpose of prayer is not to get healed,  get a job, get our house sold, or whatever else we want.  It is to get “the life of God in us;” to be transformed into Himself, knowing Him as the Giver, not just receiving good gifts from Him.

We may faithfully pray for others only to hear the silence on Heaven.  He never promised that He would answer in “your time”, but in His time, and in the meantime redeem the time for the days are evil.

Ephesians 6 gives us a glimpse into the purpose of prayer; the role of a warrior.  We are called to stand against the enemy and putting on the armor to wage warfare is where victories are seen.  Persevering supplications and intercessions should be a part of our daily walk.  What stops the flow by our busyness.  Busy people do not have time to pray and we all suffer loss.  Learning how the Lord asks us to pray, according to His mind should be a privilege and priority. We are called to be overcomers and so there must be some conflict to overcome.  IF YOU WILL ASK lends instruction, hope, and comfort for a life of change.

The Corinthian Church Foundation

“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins discuss the foundational doctrines of the faith that every Christian needs to be able to stand strong in everyday Christian living. It is especially important during these difficult times that we are all facing.

As we look at the counsel Paul gave the Corinthian Church in 1 Corinthians Chapter 3, we see warnings about how to lay the foundation of Jesus Christ. We learn that the foundation is laid by what we believe.

So, join in the conversation as we discuss how our beliefs affect how well we stand on the foundation of Christ as we look at the Corinthian Church Foundation.

Casual Christianity

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green examines “Casual Christianity” by Charles F. Stanley.

Casual Christianity pulls back the curtains for choosing to be satisfied with making a decision in your Christian life but failing to make a commitment to the Person of Jesus Christ.  Partial commitments are not an option.  The scriptures are consistent in being wholehearted in your decisions if you want to be His disciple and learn and grow into a mature child of God.

Fear of the unknown of what God may ask of you puts on the “brakes” with getting too involved with a heart that says “none of self and all of Thee.” Yes, it can be scary if we look through the eyes of circumstances and consequences of what can happen here.  What will be required of me?

When your heart is so in love with the Lord Jesus that He is your main focus, then fear lessens and love strengthens.  The heart is so desirous to walk in His perfect peace with a rolling conversation that being casual about your relationship with Jesus is not an option in your life.

To come to this point is not easy as one must sing “I Surrender All.”  Easy to sing, hard to do.

Knowing and understanding the full benefits of the Cross of Christ and then taking up your cross on His behalf is our goal and focus.  We don’t want to be like the rich young ruler who wanted to follow Christ but when given the qualifying factor, he could not part with his temporal lifestyle and benefits.

The Corinthians in Carnality

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby: if so be you have tasted that the Lord is gracious” 1 Peter 2:2-3.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins discuss the hard sayings that Paul is sharing with the Corinthians in Chapter Three. He tells them that he can not speak to them as spiritual people but he has to talk to them as if they are babes in Christ.
He tells them that they are carnal Christians, in other words, they were living out their Christian life in their own wisdom and opinions. They were all doing what was right in their own sight and envy, strife, and divisions were displayed in their daily lives.
He has established in previous chapters that they had mixed their culture with Christianity yet they believed that they had arrived at full maturity. Pride has set in their hearts and Paul is working to tear down the walls so he can strengthen them in Christ.
So join in the conversation as we discuss the Corinthians in Carnality.

The Way They Learn

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green takes a look at The Way They Learn by Cynthia Tobias

In today’s enlightening resource, Cynthia Tobias introduces a variety of learning styles that shaped the way students interpret their world. Once these approaches are understood, parents and teachers can become far more effective in helping children grasp confusing concepts, staying interested in lessons, and utilize their strengths.

For instance, in teaching vocabulary words, some children respond best by using flashcards, while others need verbal drills, and a third group thrives on using body movements to help recall the definitions. By recognizing children’s learning preferences, you can reach them more efficiently and effectively! And with our nation in an educational crisis and countless parents finding themselves in the throes of virtual learning, there’s never been a better time for this book.

The Way They Learn, written by Cynthia Tobias should be required reading for any parent or teacher who really wants to see the kids succeed in school whether it be in a homeschool, virtual, hybrid, or in-class setting. So, come be a part as we instigate these powerful tools for throwing out the best in your child. Keep your children the best chance for success by coming into to understand the way they learn.

The Corinthians and Craftiness

“Be alert and of sober mind, because your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” 1 Peter 5:8.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins take a look at the craftiness of the enemy. It is important that we are aware of the enemy’s tactics, deceptions, and subtle ways in order to avoid falling into the trap set.
We think that evil will look evil but sometimes evil looks beautiful to our eyes, it is appealing and seems harmless, that’s part of the deception.
Knowing about the cross is a foundational tool that we can use to keep us steadfastly standing on solid ground. The cross and Jesus Christ are the Cornerstones of our living.
Educating ourselves in the fullness of the cross and retraining our brain to accept all that has been given to us by the cross will guide our path in God’s wisdom as we journey here on earth.
So join in the conversation as we examine Paul’s counsel and discuss the Corinthians and Craftiness.

The Cross and the Corinthians

“For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified” 1 Cor. 2:2.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie, and Sharon dig into the counsel Paul is giving to the Corinthian Church to help uncover their blindness about the cross of Christ.

They were very intelligent people and they were using their own intellect to understand the cross, but God’s wisdom is not received by the natural man. Even as Believers, we can begin to think that the cross of Christ is the one-time act of love that Jesus died for our sins. However, His sacrifice on the cross benefits our life for all eternity.

The cross provides all that we need to live victoriously. It paid for our sins by the blood of Jesus. It also took care of our flesh by the crucifixion and defeated the power of Satan in our lives by the resurrection.

There was nothing left undone. Jesus did pay it all so that we could have life abundantly free from sin and death.

So join in the conversation as we discuss the Cross and the Corinthians.

The Torah Syndrome

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green examines “The Torah Syndrome” by Jim Craddock.

While the principles of law, grace, and redemption find their true origins in Scripture, these themes can also be seen throughout the literary world. Les Misérables by Victor Hugo is a prime example of this. The struggle to develop the right perspective of law and grace is a universal one and is fraught with misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and misapplication.

Jim Craddock, author, counselor, lecturer, and educator introduces what he found to be one of the most destructive forces in the life of the Christian, which is living a life under law (or legalism) rather than through grace, in his book, The Torah Syndrome.

So, come be a part as Craddock reveals the effect of the law on the Christian’s walk and reveals the correlation between the law and sin and the resulting damage when one tries to live this kind of life. He will also detail the remarkable freedom that comes when one truly finds living a life of grace, as God intended.

The Cross Displays True Friendship

“Hereafter I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of My Father I have made known to you” John 15:15.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon discuss how the cross that Christ bore displays what true friendship looks like. His friendship carried the cross, His friendship hung on the cross, His friendship caused Him to die on the cross but He willingly did it in order to buy back those of us who had no hope.

The cross not only gives us the opportunity to come into a relationship with God but also the ability to live victorious each day. The cross paid for our sins by the blood. The cross took care of our flesh by the crucifixion. The cross defeated the power of Satan in our lives by the resurrection.

So join in the conversation as we examine the scriptures that tell us how the cross displays true friendship.

The Sovereignty of God

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green explores The Sovereignty of God by A.W. Pink

Present-day conditions call loudly for a new examination and new presentation of God’s omnipotence, God’s sufficiency, and God’s sovereignty. From every pulpit in the land, it needs to be thundered forth that God still lives, that God still observes, that God still reigns.

Faith is now in the crucible, it is being tested by fire. There is no fixed and sufficient resting-place for the heart and mind but in the Throne of God! What is needed now, as never before, is a full, positive, constructive setting forth of the Godhood of God?

So, come be a part as we search out one of life’s most compelling subjects in The Sovereignty of God written by A.W. Pink. In this classic work, A.W. Pink answers profound questions in a way that Christians will find not only understandable but totally engaging. Pink writes with fiery passion and brilliant clarity, giving biblical answers to our deepest questions regarding the sadly neglected and little understood doctrine of the Sovereignty of God.

The Cross That We Bear

“If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it” Matthew 16:24-25.

The cross paid for our sins by the blood, took care of our flesh by the crucifixion, and defeated the power of Satan in our lives by the resurrection.

Many times we see the cross as a one-time event because the Lord said, “it is finished” and we don’t see that it provides a daily living which calls us to bear our cross. Our command to bear our cross is found in Matt 10:38, Luke 14:27, and Matt 16:24.

Our cross is a choice, so it must refer to something which we choose to apply. It is the suffering a Christian endures as a consequence of following Christ in obedience.

So, join in the conversation as we discover the cross that we bear.

What to Wear to the War

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green takes a look at What to Wear to the War by Warren Wiersbe.

When David volunteered to meet Goliath’s challenge to Israel, King Saul was concerned about what David would wear into battle. In fact, Saul placed his own armor on David. But it didn’t fit and would have proved more of a hindrance than a help in David’s battle plan. He was better off without the king’s armor, carrying just his sling and five smooth stones.

But there is no reason for today’s believer to be gazing off toward the battlefield, mumbling, “I just don’t have anything to wear.” In Ephesians chapter 6, God tells believers exactly what to wear to the war – and his armor is tailor-made.

So, come be a part as we suit-up in, What to Wear to the War, written by Warren Wiersbe. In it, we’ll be introduced to each piece of armor God has provided and will learn how to use that armor in our daily skirmishes against the foe.

The Cross Provides Life and Liberty

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” Galatians 5:1

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins continue to explore the cross of Jesus Christ. The cross accomplished more than just forgiveness of sins; it also took care of our flesh and defeated the power of Satan in our life.

When Jesus said, “…I have come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly” John 10:10b, He was speaking of the fulness that the cross would provide for us to be able to live a victorious life.

As Christians, we don’t have to let our flesh take charge of our lives anymore because we are crucified with Christ and no longer slaves to sin. Many times we look no different than the world in how we deal with each other. We bite and devour one another and consume each other, which Galatians 5:15 warns us not to do.

The liberty that we have been given by the cross gives us the power to walk in the Spirit, fight against the flesh, and to display the fruit of the Spirit to all those around us.

So join in the conversation as we discuss how The Cross Provides Life and Liberty.

Diplomatic Christianity

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green takes a look at Diplomatic Christianity by Steven Khoury

As our society has given rise to a culture of Political Correctness and Tolerance, it has become extremely intolerant of those who do not subscribe to the narrative being touted as the ‘majority’ opinion. Although there is a strong sense of doubt as to whether it is truly the opinion of the majority or simply the narrative most forcibly proclaimed.

In response to this wave of intense scrutiny, hateful rhetoric, and ‘cancel culture’ reprisals, many people have begun to reach out to diplomacy when comes to sharing their faith. In an effort to avoid confrontation and find common ground, precious biblical tenets have been compromised and swept away all in the name of “love’ and “getting along.”

But Steven Khoury – a Christian Israeli Arab Author, Pastor, and Vice-President of Holy Land Missions- believes that persecutions and confrontation are at your doorstep no matter which country you reside in and that Christians must find a way to stand in the face of confrontation.

In his book, Diplomatic Christianity: Standing in the Shadow of Tomorrow’s Persecution,  Khoury shares incredible stories and real-life example of persecution in the Middle East, and how God called him to preach a simple message of faith in one of the world’s most volatile regions. In Diplomatic Christianity, you will discover essential principles outlining how to stand and face persecution from a one who has personally experienced it for much of his life and how to enjoy the rewards promised by God through enduring it.

The Cross Provides Complete Freedom

“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that hereafter we should not serve sin” Romans 6:6

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins discuss the freedom that Christ has provided for us by the cross. He paid for our sins by His blood, He took care of our sin (natural man) by the crucifixion, and He defeated the power of Satan in our lives by the resurrection. There is so much that the Lord has given us. We have the assurance of our salvation. We have safety from the enemy. We have peace that the world can’t give. We can be joyful, courageous, and holy, full of virtue, and have a dynamic life.

On the cross, Jesus was crucified for me and on the cross, I am crucified with Him. This seems to be one of the most difficult concepts of truth for us to understand. Romans Chapter Six assures us that we are no longer slaves to sin because of the cross of Christ.

Join in the conversation as we discover how The Cross Provides Complete Freedom.

The Cross Beyond Salvation

“For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; Not of works, lest any man should boast” Ephesians 2:8-9.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins discuss the gift of salvation by the Cross of Christ. There are benefits that we receive by the sacrifice paid by Jesus on the cross.

By the blood that was shed at Calvary, our sins are forgiven. The cross took care of our old nature by the crucifixion. And the cross defeated the power of Satan in our lives by the resurrection.

Join in the conversation today as we discover the benefits of the cross beyond salvation.

19 Gifts of the Spirit

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green examines 19 Gifts of the Spirit by Leslie B. Flynn.

The subject of spiritual gifts, so important in the life of the Early Church, has been frequently neglected throughout the following centuries. We’ll see the interest in Spiritual Gifts rise to prominence every so often in modern church thinking only to see it wane once again.

Repeatedly through the years, the church has failed to encourage its members to identify and utilize their gifts. Sadly, our Pastors are increasingly called to do too much while the people often do too little.

Church leadership and Layman alike must bear some responsibility for this lack within the body of Christ. Let’s be clear once and for all, God gives one or more spiritual gifts to every child of His. Spiritual Gifts are the gifts or special abilities given to Christians by the Holy Spirit. What are the gifts? What is their purpose? How can you discover yours and put it to use?

All these questions, plus a careful examination of gifts revealed in the Bible are included in this week’s in-depth study of 19 Gifts of the Spirit by Leslie B. Flynn. If you want to know what the Bible says about spiritual gifts, then come be a part as we investigate this essential element of the Christian life.

The Power of a Praying Parent

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green examines The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie Omartin.

Any amount of fear and anxiety can be found in many homes today as families try to navigate these uncertain waters. But first and foremost, we must remind ourselves of two things:

First, God is still on the throne, still in control, and all things work together for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

Second, being a perfect parent doesn’t matter… it never did. But, being a praying parent does… and always has.

Amid all the craziness surrounding our world today, why leave your child’s life to chance when you can give it to God?

Award-winning singer and songwriter Stormie Omartian and her husband, Michael, spent 20 years raising their children and learning the power of praying for them. The knowledge they gleaned resulted in one of the most treasured and worn books in my library, The Power of a Praying Parent. In 30 short, easy-to-read chapters, Stormie shares how you can pray through every age and stage of your child’s life.

So come be a part, as we learn how to turn to the Father and place every detail of our child’s life in His loving and capable hands: Their safety, friends, character development, relationship with God, peer pressure, family relationships, school, marriage, career, and much, much more.

The Benefits of the Cross

“For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved” John 3:17

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon discuss the benefits we receive because of the sacrifice Jesus paid on the cross. The Cross paid for our sins by the blood. This is the benefit that is most talked about and described for salvation. However, receiving this benefit is not the end, there are more benefits that the cross provides the believer to continue to live victorious each day. The cross took care of our flesh by the crucifixion. We are no longer a slave to our natural human nature, we are a new creature in Christ. The cross defeated the power of Satan in our lives by the resurrection.

So Join in the conversation as we discover all the benefits of the cross.

All the Promises of God

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green takes a look at All the Promises of God by Herbert Lockyer.

In All the Promises of the Bible, Dr. Herbert Lockyer discusses seven aspects of the nature of God’s promises – their substancesimplicity, stipulations, surety, source, security, and scope.

So, come be a part as Herbert Lockyer takes us on an incredible journey in All the Promises of the Bible as we discover more than 8000 biblical promises? His in-depth look at the scope of God’s promises arranges them in categories that cover the full array of human concern, from the spiritual to the material and the corporate to the personal.

As you come to understand God’s promises and how they apply to every aspect of your life, you will gain a trust in God that will sustain you through the worst of times and be your source of rejoicing in the best.

The Corinthians Comprehension

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins take a close look at the Corinthian Church to learn from the encouragement and correction that Paul gave to them in 1 Corinthians Chapter One.

In their conversation, they are examining the comprehension of the Church about the cross of Christ. Paul addresses that they were using their own wisdom which caused confusion and divisions.

We are experiencing the same results today as we use our own wisdom to understand the cross. Paul shares that the cross is the power of God and assures us that in our own comprehension and wisdom, the cross sounds foolish.

Join in the conversation as we discover the similarities between our own understanding and The Corinthians Comprehension.

Christ Esteem

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green pulls Christ Esteem: Where the Search for Self-esteem Ends by Don Matzat from the shelf.

The concept of self-esteem apparently has its origins in the 18th century, first expressed in the writings of David Hume, the Scottish Enlightenment thinker. He indicated that it is important to value and think well of yourself because it serves as a motivational function that enables people to explore their full potential.

Then in the mid-1960s, came the emergence of the modern self-esteem movement with the myriad of philosophers and psychologists joining the cause. So, the concept of man’s need for self-esteem has been with us for over 244 years and formally a part of our culture since the 60’s.  Yet, according to some of the latest statistics from 2017, 85% of people suffer from low self-esteem.

The underlying idea of the movement was that low self-esteem is the root of problems for individuals, making it the root of all societal problems and dysfunctions. Popular thinking tells us the answers to our problems lie inside ourselves; Jesus tells us something totally different.

People today are desperately looking inward, trying to find the answers to life’s difficult questions. Many of us have looked and still come up short. Instead of providing answers, the question seems to only add to our confusion. So, come be a part as pastor and author, Don Matzat, responds to the search for self-knowledge with a startling, yet solid, biblical truth: What we need is Christ-esteem, not self-esteem!

The Corinthians Conceit

“Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment” 1 Cor. 1:10.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon are continuing to journey through taking a close look at the Corinthian Church to learn from Paul’s encouragement and correction to them.

We can find great divisions in every aspect of our world today. With everyone doing what is right in their own sight and no absolute truth to stand on, there is a great divide in our nation from the government to families. We have advanced technologies that have advanced our knowledge and intellect. Being wise in our own eyes we have become fools as Romans 1:22 talks about. These same kinds of things were going on in the church at Corinth.

Join in the conversation as we uncover the depths of divide with The Corinthians Conceit.

Enjoy Your Freedom

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green explores Enjoy Your Freedom by Warren Wiersbe.

We talk about freedom, dream about freedom, teach our schoolchildren about freedom, and revel in the idea of freedom. The word “freedom” can mean many things to many people, especially in a society where words are often redefined to match someone’s beliefs rather than someone’s beliefs coming into alignment with the meaning of a word. Yes, our world is certainly concerned about freedom, but very few people ask, “what really is freedom?”

In a “do your own thing” world it is easy to confuse license and liberty. But don’t do it! Because when you are free in Christ, only then are you free from the law, sin, men and your past and have a future freedom to anticipate. So, come be a part as we take a look at freedom from the spiritual point of view with today’s author Warren Wiersbe in his book, Enjoy Your Freedom.

The Corinthian Christian

“Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 1:3.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins dig into the first chapter of 1 Corinthians to learn from Paul’s encouragement and correction to the church at Corinth.

The Christians at Corinth were going through a crisis, much like we find ourselves in a crisis today. Life is not as we have known it and learning new ways to live can be quite difficult. It requires a conscious effort to do things differently. Automatic motions demand to be adjusted so that we keep our distance. The Corinthian church was struggling to change from their old habits to find a new way of life. So, as we are facing many obstacles and struggles today, we learn that we can trust God through every aspect of them, just as they are learning. Guilt, depression, and uncertainty can overwhelm us but if we will run to the Father, He has all we need.

Join in the conversation as we discover Paul’s counsel to The Corinthian Christians.

The Second American Revolution

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green explores The Second American Revolution by  John Whitehead.

In his book, The Second American Revolution, John Whitehead courageously takes on the present systems of the American law and government and challenges them to fulfill our founding fathers’ commitment to religious liberty.

Francis Schaeffer wrote, “John, attacks, and exposes an issue that has been festering, hidden beneath the surface and ignored by too many Christians, for long. The issue is that of church and state: Christian and religious freedom versus a secularist, humanistic elite, which increasingly controls our society.

The government, the courts, the media, the law are all dominated to one degree or another by the elite. They have and largely secularized our society by force, particularly using the courts.

In this comprehensive book, Whitehead gives us a firm understanding of the Judeo-Christian tradition and base this country once had. He explains why and how we have departed from it, and then traces what the courts have done, and the role they have played.

No Christian can fully understand or change the age in which we live without such knowledge of our country’s history and present situation. This book stands as a crucial statement on this subject. Because of its lucid and well-written nature, as well as its profound depth, it will appeal to laymen, lawyer, minister, judge alike.

The Corinthian Compromise

“Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 1:3.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman Janie Ratzlaff and Sharon Hoskins return to the studio to investigate the counsel Paul gives the Church at Corinth. Their struggle was caused by deep-rooted habits and ingrained traditions that came from culture. As new believers, they were intermingling Christianity with the culture of Corinth. Paul is writing this letter to encourage them in their struggle and also to warn them of the danger that is lurking.
Join in the conversation as we examine The Corinthian Compromise.

The Light and Glory

As we celebrate the 4th of July this year it is a good time to reflect on our roots.  There is a saying in Christian circles that history broken down spells his-story.  How God reveals His means and methods in time, as to how He wants to bring all things back to the original plan before the fall

America was founded on Biblical and moral Truth; a reason for America’s blessings and survival for the last 200 plus years.

America was never a “perfect” nation but a light and testimony to the world that she honors God and His people (Israel).

A slow, but sure, erosion over time has been eating away at her values and roots.  As she has prospered her people have changed their character and choices in how they want to live and be governed.  Now many educators are changing how history is being re-written and remembered.  Many of today’s citizens have never been to war, except maybe in riots on our own streets and campuses. They have never had to go through loss and a valley of tears or had a spirit of strength to fight for what they really believe is best for the nation based on our original values.  We are a nation that has gone selfish and soft.

Let’s travel with Peter Marshall back in time as he traces the decline of the American Dream and sees what happens when a nation compromises its beginnings and blessings.

The Holy Spirit in Prayer

“Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: but you know Him; for He dwells with you and shall be in you” John 14:17.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon share the third program of a three-part series on the Holy Spirit from the archives.

It is important for us to acknowledge who the Holy Spirit is and recognize what He does in order for us to allow His work to be effective in our daily lives. John 14:17 tells us that we are privileged to see Him, know Him, and receive Him; that He not only dwells with us but also lives in us. Learning to listen to His voice will give us the opportunity to take advantage of those privileges.

Join in the conversation as we discover how to recognize His voice and take the time to listen to The Holy Spirit in Prayer.

Major Bible Themes

This week on Sharin’ Hearts The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green pulls “Major Bible Themes: 52 Vital Doctrines fo the Scriptures Simplified and Explained” by Lewis Sperry Chafer from the shelf to discuss.

Can you explain or defend the Bible and its purpose?  Have you ever wanted to know more of God’s role in our lives, understand the different interactions  God the Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit share as they control, direct, and guide us through our time here on earth?  Most Christians lack the daily practical understanding of how God works.

Major Bible Themes addresses 52 questions we desperately need to rise up against the falsehoods that we are being asked to swallow as reality when in essence they are twisted fabrications of man’s thinking. Take some time out of life’s busy schedule and listen to what may be life-changing knowledge as the Holy Spirit grounds us in God’s Truth about Who He is and how He operates.  We will forever be going deeper and deeper into the depths of His grace as we are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

The Importance of the Holy Spirit in Our Lives

“However when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth” John 16:13a

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon share the second program of a three-part series on the Holy Spirit from the archives.

We acknowledge that the Holy Spirit exists as part of the Trinity, but we often find it difficult to acknowledge Him in our everyday life. John 16:13 is one of the many beautiful promises that is fulfilled by the Holy Spirit. Once we recognize the characteristics of the Holy Spirit and understand the roles He plays in our lives, then allowing Him to be active on a daily basis will come easier.

The Trouble with Jesus

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green takes a look at “The Trouble with Jesus” by Joseph Stowell.

Jesus declares He is the ONLY WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE.  In establishing this once great nation, His rule book the Bible was the foundation for our founding fathers.  Today, in a post-Christian society we have reduced the God of Creation, Jesus Christ, to a tradition that now competes with other significant religions within our society.  Now, man declares, through his own understanding, that all gods are good gods and our jaded culture says this is the new normal.

All worldly religions have their leaders in graves; only Christianity has arisen Leader.  Our society will let Him live if we don’t speak of Him publicly or make any claim of His deity.  Make no mistake, Jesus is unequaled. He doesn’t compete.

To say that ALL religions are true means no religion is true.  Are we ready to stick up for Jesus and be His advocate, anytime, anywhere?

If you want to know how to speak the Truth that Jesus is the only way, how to speak it humbly and compassionately, how to speak it wisely and patiently in ways that honor Jesus, then prepare your heart to be steadfast in being light overcoming darkness. THE TROUBLE WITH JESUS is a great guide to achieve this.

The Characteristics of the Holy Spirit

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said to you” John 14:26.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon share the first program of a three-part series on the Holy Spirit from the archives.

Many times the teachings about the Holy Spirit bring up more questions than answers. John 14:26 is probably the most quoted scripture about the Holy Spirit, but that verse does not describe everything there is to know about whom the Holy Spirit is and what He does.

Join in the conversation as we uncover more scriptures that describe The Characteristics of the Holy Spirit.

The Prayer Life

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green digs into The Prayer Life By Charles Usher

The question at hand isn’t about how many people prayed daily, but how many people truly understand biblical teaching and perspective on prayer. Because if we are truly serious about spiritual growth, about deepening our relationship with Christ… Prayer must be assigned the highest priority!

So, come be a part as we join author Charles Usher in a discussion of the prayer life and how to live it, with a concentration on spiritual warfare in his book, The Prayer Life.  This is a small book perhaps 50 pages yet filled with immense truth and practicality. The topics Usher addresses include: hindrances to prayer, equipment for warfare, the prayer of faith, perseverance in prayer, and prayers for nations, homes, and circumstances; for Scripture tells us to, “watch and pray.”

The Prayer Life by Charles Usher is currently out of print and can be found online only in very limited quantities. If you are unable to locate a copy and are interested in adding The Prayer Life to your library of Christian resources, please contact The Fireside Book Shelf through our home page and we can assist you in obtaining a reprint of this timeless work.

A Pocket Guide to Social Issues

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green opens A Pocket Guide to Social Issues by Answers in Genesis.

America is indeed in the middle of a cultural war. The battle lines are drawn around issues that polarize our society, there are many labels that get attached to these ideas, but labels can often be misleading.

In order to understand the issues, it is important to look at them from both sides, but the biblical side of these issues is not well-represented in the media.

Today’s feature covers a variety of topics like: when does life begin? What about stem cells, homosexuality, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, and racism? Where do human rights come from, how do we know what is moral? These questions and others are answered in this compilation of topics and it’s contributing authors will layout both the biblical perspective alongside the secular understanding of the issues.

Because we must know what scripture says and how to address those around us in love and grace while still standing firmly on the Word of God and A Pocket Guide to Social Issues by Answers in Genesis is a great place to start.

How to Find True Joy

“You will show me the path of life: in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore” Psalm 16:11

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, the topic of joy is discussed. Janie and Sharon are feeling the effects of the current events happening around the world. A call for social distancing has caused financial hardship and overwhelming fears for many people. Social unrest and division are sweeping the nation.

At a time when things seem so bleak, how can we be joyful? When there is no peace and people are losing hope joy is nowhere to be found.

Join in the conversation as we discover how to find true joy.

How to Overcome Temptations

“Blessed is the man that endures temptations: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love Him” James 1:12.

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon discuss 6 different types of resources that are used as the final authority in our lives. Every person uses a final authority that they stand on for the basis of the choices they make in life. Discover how using the wrong final authority may be causing us to give into temptations that are destroying our testimony. Join in the conversation as we dig into the scriptures that will give us insight into how to overcome temptations.

The Cross and Sanctification

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green takes a look at The Cross and Sanctification By T. A. Hegre.

Today’s feature contains simple studies on what is generally called the deeper life. After becoming a Christian, the writer discovered that in his own experience and in the experience of others whom he knew, the level of Christian living with not the same as that set forth in the Scriptures.

This inconsistency caused him to seek earnestly for an answer to this perplexing problem. First, he searched the books of his church, and there found recognition of the problem but no solution. Not knowing any books on the victorious life at the time, he began his own careful and prayerful search of the Scriptures.

There he found the answer, revealed in the deeper meaning of the cross. First, he found “the way” in his own experience; then he became aware of the doctrinal principles involved, and later learned how to explain them. Now the studies have been revised, enlarged, and collected into a single volume-The Cross and Sanctification by T. A. Hegre.

So, come be a part as T.A. Hegre presents some desperately needed instruction and inspiration for all of Christ’s followers. The apostle Paul’s declared objective was not merely to preach the gospel and found churches but “to present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.” Hegre’s teachings on this objective are clear, sensible, and easy to understand.

How to Overcome Doubt

“Satan sows seeds of fear so that we might reap the fruit of doubt”

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon hope to expose the many seeds of fear that are being sown into our hearts. There are many things happening right now that can cause us to be fearful and in turn, we begin to doubt God and His love for us. If we can recognize the fear that is getting into our hearts, then we can take action so that doubt does not grow. If we can also recognize doubt, then we can trace it back to a root of fear. So remember, “Satan sows seeds of fear that we might reap the fruit of doubt.” Join in the conversation as we look at how to overcome doubt.

Don’t Waste Your Sorrows

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green explores Don’t Waste Your Sorrows by Paul Billheimer

In Don’t Waste Your Sorrows Paul Billheimer considers suffering, in addition to prayer, as another aspect of the bride-elect’s training for sovereignty. God designed the system of prayer to equip or qualified her with the techniques, the skills, and the “know-how” for rulership.

He has further designed that suffering. which is a consequence of the fall, shall produce the character and disposition, the compassionate spirit, which will be required for rulership in a government where the law of love is supreme.

All born-again people are training for rulership. Since the supreme law of that future social order, all the kingdom of God is agape love, their apprenticeship and training are for learning the dimensions of this love. But the deep dimensions of this love are only learned in the school of suffering.

If you are interested in investing your time and energy into developing the eternal currency of agape love… then I hope you will seek out more of what Billheimer has to teach us in Don’t Waste Your Sorrows.

Saving Christianity

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green explores Saving Christianity by Michael Youssef

There is an element within the Christian community that has come to believe that Christianity must change or die and that they know what is needed in order to “save” Christianity. They proclaim that in order to save Christianity, Christians must change the core of our faith and adapt to remain relevant in order to attract younger generations.

According to one source:

If the Christian church is going to survive, it needs to develop alternative ways of viewing heaven and hell and a different way of looking at the atonement of sins through Jesus’ death on the cross. The concepts of hell and an atonement theory that requires the brutal crucifixion of Jesus before we can reconcile with God are incongruent with the concept of a God of grace.

But is that really the case? In his book, Saving Christianity, Michael Youssef explores this train of thought and its pitfalls. For the sake of the next generation, he declares, we dare not abandon “the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people” (Jude 1:3), because it is the light for all humanity.

How to Overcome Fear

“And when the enemy drew near, My heart filled with fear, Then I heard someone dear, Calling me to His side, And I ran under His wings, There He covered me, And now I can see, The storm still rages, Oh, but in the Rock of Ages, We’re resting warmly here, Under our Lord’s wings” Under His Wings – Hymn

This week on Sharin Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon are feeling the effects of the pandemic that has swept around the world. Since they have been unable to meet in the studio for conversation, they scoured their archives for topics that are relevant to our current situation. Fear is flooding many hearts as they face financial uncertainty, loss of loved ones, and isolation from friends and family. These are very difficult times but we want to be able to overcome the fear that grips and paralyzes us. There are approximately 365 verses about fear and worry in scripture. So, join in the conversation as we explore many of these verses to discover How to Overcome Fear.

Taking Responsibility for the Choices We Make

This week on Sharin’ Hearts: The Fireside Bookshelf, Ginger Green explores Taking Responsibility for the Choices We Make by Leighann McCoy

The concept that life is hard and some tragedy in life is to be expected has become unacceptable in our world today. Somewhere along the line, the belief that no one should ever suffer and that no rain should ever fall has been incorporated into life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We were never promised happiness only the ability and freedom to pursue it.

Yet, all to often when something in our lives goes awry, when we are undone, offended, wounded, legitimately angry or somebody’s done us wrong usually the last person we hold responsible for our choices is…ourselves.

So, if you’ve found yourself in an unimaginable place where the goodness of God seems to have left you, and everything you thought you knew about Him and His ways has evaporated in the aftermath of the devastation you find yourself facing then come be a part… as author Leighann McCoy helps us navigate a path through the turmoil in her book, Taking Responsibility for the Choices We Make.

Jesus Endured the Pits

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” Hebrews 4:14-15

This week on Sharin’ Hearts Woman to Woman, Janie and Sharon take a look at a time in Jesus’ life when He was enduring the pits. In Hebrews Chapter 4, we are encouraged with the knowledge that Jesus understands, from first-hand experience, the struggles we face in this world. He knows our weakness and has experienced the same temptations.

In Luke 22, we read of the time when Jesus was in the deepest pit; He is about to be arrested and sacrificed on the cross. Examining this passage of scripture, we find encouragement from Jesus as He encourages His disciples to prepare for the tough times ahead. When we are in the pits of life, we can look to His example to help us endure because we know that He, Himself, Jesus endured the pits.
