Jay Adams in his book, A Call for Discernment: Distinguishing the Truth from Error in Today’s Church shares, that today’s church is confused. False teaching and heresy abound. Many Christians fall prey because they simply do not know how to distinguish truth from error.

Slogans are bandied about: “all truth is God’s truth.” No one in his right mind would deny that. But it is also a fact that “all error is the devil’s error.” Now, where are we? Back to square one.

We must still distinguish God’s truth from the devil’s error; sloganizing won’t do that for us. What is wrong? Why is the church so susceptible to a falsehood? How can we distinguish what teachings are truly biblical and we should follow and what teachings we should reject?
