The Condition of Our Conscience

“Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling” 1 Timothy 1:4-6

In 1 Timothy 1:4-6, Paul tells Timothy not to give attention to teachings that cause disputes rather than godly edification, which is of the Faith. The goal of this commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from a sincere faith.  We need the assurance of our faith and how it operates to check our fears.

Wrong teaching will bring fears to the thinking and emotions, paralyzing our ability to contend for the faith. We are not left helpless because we have the Holy Spirit living within, guiding us. His love will flow through us as we choose to keep a good conscience from a pure heart.

If we refuse to listen to the counsel given, our minds become the battleground for the conscience, becoming dull of hearing and not able to discern. The Word of God keeps the conscience sharp.
