Hearing God

Hearing God requires us to have the right equipment: Having ears to hear, “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” Matthew 11:15
Hearing God requires us to use the equipment we have been given:
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
With ears to hear and a response to what we hear, we are ready to apply the first lesson of hearing. “Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.” Psalm 119:11
We should have desire, discipline, and purpose in seeing the Scriptures as our first “go to” for hearing the voice of God.
If we really believe that hearing with the ear and applying from the heart is a necessary way of functioning in our relationship with the Father, fellowship with the Lord Jesus, and following the guidance of the Holy Spirit for Christian growth, then we will learn quickly what is vital to our life.
Paul gets specific when he says, “faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 However, many have wrong motives for wanting to hear God. They simply want to know what it takes for their own safety, comfort, and righteousness.
Follow Dallas Willard as he looks at lives gone before as examples, examining wrong motives, understanding whether the voice is from the Lord or from a false source, and how to establish a close communication that builds confidence, yet ever ready to hear that “still small voice.” 1 Kings 19:12
